CBD products marketed for pets exist in a legal grey zone in Canada — most are unlicensed, poorly labelled, and potentially unsafe. I built this guide to give you the clarity your dog deserves.
CBD products labelled specifically for pets are not legally authorised in Canada. Yet they're sold everywhere. Knowing what's compliant, what's safe, and how to navigate this space is exactly what this course teaches — from someone who holds formal certification in veterinary cannabis counselling.

This isn't a general overview. Each module addresses a specific, real question Tania hears from dog owners every week in her clinic.
Many owners are unknowingly purchasing products in a regulatory grey zone. This course explains what the law actually says, what to look for, and how to stay on the right side of it — while still making informed choices for your dog's wellbeing.
ONE
How CBD and other cannabinoids interact with the canine endocannabinoid system — and why dogs respond differently to cannabis than humans do.
TWO
What's legal, what's not, and why the products you see at pet stores are often in a regulatory grey zone. What to buy, what to avoid, and how to stay compliant.
THREE
What the label actually tells you — and what it hides. How to assess quality, identify red flags, and compare products without being misled by marketing language.
FOUR
There is no universal dose for cannabis in dogs. This module covers how to start low, track response, and adjust based on your dog's individual needs and weight.
FIVE
What to look for after starting cannabis — both positive signs that it's working and warning signs that something isn't right. Includes a monitoring framework you can use at home.
SIX
Not all vets are comfortable discussing cannabis. How to have a productive conversation with your vet, and what to do if they're hesitant or unsupportive.
I'm one of a small number of practitioners in Canada who holds formal certification as a Veterinary Cannabis Counsellor. This course isn't built from general interest or casual research — it comes from 20+ years of clinical practice, real patient cases, and conversations with hundreds of worried dog owners.
Every week in my Colborne clinic, conversations start with "what do you know about CBD?" I built this course because I kept giving the same expert answers to the same confused, anxious owners — and decided to make that expertise available to everyone, everywhere.
Certified Veterinary Cannabis Counsellor — formal training in the clinical use of cannabis in veterinary patients, including legal frameworks, dosing, and monitoring protocols.
From TPLO recovery to senior dog care — here's what dog owners have experienced working with Canine Wellness Centre.
This is exactly the complexity this course addresses. Under Canada's Cannabis Act, products specifically labelled and marketed for pets are not currently authorised. However, licensed human cannabis products can be used in animals under certain circumstances and with veterinary guidance. This course explains the current regulatory position clearly, so you can make informed, compliant decisions.
No. While the legal modules focus on Canadian regulations (since that's where most ambiguity currently lies), the information on how cannabis works in dogs, how to read labels, dosing principles, and monitoring your dog's response is universal and applies regardless of where you are.
This course gives you the knowledge to have that conversation — with me, with your vet, or with yourself. It won't tell you definitively "yes" or "no" for your individual dog, because that depends on your dog's specific condition, medications, and history. What it does is give you the framework to ask the right questions and recognise good answers.
Yes — Module 6 is dedicated specifically to navigating conversations with vets who are unfamiliar or hesitant. Veterinary cannabis education is still developing in Canada, and many practitioners lack formal training in this area. This module gives you tools to have a productive dialogue and, if necessary, to find a vet who can support you more fully.
CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) are both cannabinoids — compounds found in the cannabis plant. They work through different pathways and may have different effects. The course covers the main cannabinoids relevant to dogs, including how and why some owners use them in combination. The real-world example from S.A. Hearne above — where a CBD + CBG regimen replaced prescription drugs — is one I've seen replicated more than once in my clinic.
Almost certainly yes. Most owners who are already using CBD are doing so based on product marketing rather than evidence — they're guessing at dosing, unsure whether the product is genuine, and have no structured way to assess whether it's actually helping. This course gives you the framework to evaluate what you're doing, adjust if needed, and feel confident in your approach.
